Newbie Needs Help! Ever Made A "lava Lamp" Cake?

For my daughters birthday next month, she has requested a lava lamp cake, and I'm in WAY over my head! She wants it to be 3D, which I have never done! Anyone out there who can offer advise, I'd greatly appreciate it!
here's a sketch.
the base could be cake...but... I wouldn't recommend it. If it was you'd want to have the cakeboards and dowels as shown in the sketch.
a far safer method -- still requiring at least the central dowel all the way through would be to
get 2 foam cones (in crafts area...white or the floral green)
lop off the tops and glue together to create the base.
Cake at top would be small rounds stacked, frozen and then carved to slanted shape.
then buttercream over the cake
then cover at least the base with fondant and use fondant to make the little metal cap at top...hit both with silver luster dust.
could also cover the liquid area in fondant if so desired
blobs would be fondant applied to the lamp.
this won't have a whole lot of servings so probably need a sheet cake in reserve.
never seen a lava lamp cake before, but Doug seems like he knows what he's talking about. ![]()
good luck, I'm sure it will turn out fine! ![]()
You are incredible! This is just what I needed!!!! Thanks so much and I will let you know how all turns out.
