has anyone ever done this? at gorden's you can get 100 10" boards for under $10.00. even if i had to double them up, it would still be cheaper than getting cake boards on sale.

I think they would work. Cardboard is cardboard. I would just double them up with the corrugated (I don't know how to spell that) parts running opposite of each other for extra sturdiness and wrap with fanci foil. I would love to find less expensive cake boards and boxes somewhere. What a deal!

gordens food service is a bulk retailer. you don't have to be a member or anything like sam's or costco. i was in there today and they had bunches of sizes of pizza rounds, much cheaper than cake boards, i think the next size up was 100 for $15.00. even when i use my coupons and get cake boards on sale, they're still about 30cents per board at the cheapest.

qtkaylassweets: did you have to double up the boards for just a standard 2 layer cake, or was one sufficient(most my cakes are for 30 or fewer people, so i don't do many big ones)

I was just in at Gordons (GFS) getting stuff for easter. I wish I would have seen the pizza rounds. My daughter's school gets money from them for people shopping there - a community rewards program. I'll look more closely at some of their items next time.
