Hi everyone. I am Cindy mom of 5 and Army wife. I have been making cakes for 11 years, but did mostly star tip cakes. I have tons of tips (although have not used most of them) and I am looking to start. I have been looking through the gallery and saving all my favorites! I want to try fondant (have never even tried to make it or use it) for 4 cakes that I have to make in may. I welcome all suggestion, tips, advice, what ever you have to give, to help me get started.

My suggestion for using different tips is to practice practice practice!!! Find some designs that you like and ask the cake decorator what they used. Then just play around on a paper plate, cutting board, wax paper, until you get what you want. Good Luck!!

Welcome, it's amazing here!

So, with 5 kids you have time to do cakes?

I have two (5 and 3) and pretty much gave up cakes for about 5 yrs. Just getting back into it. I didn't realize how much I missed it until I started a few weeks ago!

Welcome to the CC.

Practice a lot.

Go top of website and check out the "ARTICLES" lots of stuff to help you their.

If you have a question about a certain you saw in the gallery, private message the person. So they can answer your questions.

Go to the library and check out some books to see what type of cake decoration you want to get into.

Toba Garrett has a good book - Professional Cake Decorating, will take you threw all the steps plus recipes.

Hi Cindy!! Welcome!

I agree with Ashley. Just start practicing and finding out what each tip does. Buy or make some fondant and start playing with it to get the feel of what it does.

Have you taken any classes?
