The other day I saw Yanaks post with photo's of her amazing cakes...they are just wonderful. If you search for the thread 3D swan you will see. I also pm'd her but I'm not sure how often she is online so I thought I would ask....the fondant on her cakes look very translucant and her colours soooo very soft, does anyone have an idea how to create that type of fondant? It really is so incredibly soft looking. I'd love to know how she did such a seamless transition into the ruffles.
And Yanak....if you read this...you have a pm.....your cakes are inspiring!!
Hi Taigen,
Thank you for the compliments!
With the fondant ... Normally I use ready made one, from a cake decorating shop. We have at least 2 different types I know of, one is a bit harder and more expensive and another one softer and more affordable, the brands may not be the same as in US or Canada though.
For the cake with rose spray & ruffles, however, I made fondant myself. The recipe was from "The Cake Bible". I made this fondant twice. It is very good if you do not color it, but when you add some color and need a bit more, it tend to crumble. So I melted few mushmellows and needed them in, checked the texture and added more in until it looked smooth. Can't give the exact proportions, sorry.
For the ruffles I had to add more MMF with gum in it. The end fondant was quite difficult to roll, but the ruffles turned out beautiful and didn't crack on top or tear off.
As for the seamless transition ... That is very simple. Tuck the end of each raffle down and under, and then the beginning of the next one, tuck in and under so that it matches exactly the previous one. Must do it quickly as they dry fast and use small flower balling tool to do it. Hope that makes sence.
I use Wilton Gel colors to color the fondant and non-toxic chalks for highlights.
I think I haven't missed anything. Any more questions are welcome
.
Where can I get to see your amazing cakes as mentioned by Taigen.
For the time being here are few http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=15851&postdays=0&postorder=asc&&start=0
YanaK...thank you so much for answering all my questions. I will give this a try one day as your cakes are so inspiring. I am in the Maritimes, Canada and have a hard time getting some of the things that are talked about on here but I have done 2 marshmallow fondant cakes. I have also done a few gumpaste flowers. I've only made 4 cakes so far so this really is quite new to me but I've been bitten by the bug!!!
Your cakes are like porcelain and I hope one day mine will have that "look" to them. I'll keep practicing
May I ask what colour you used for the very pastel pink/peach?
By the way I have family in NSW, I hope you didn't get hit by the cyclone that recently hit. Looking forward to seeing more of your creations. ![]()

It was Wilton Gel Color "Peach"
. You need just a tiny bit, it is very strong.
The cyclone was far from us, thank you for asking! I have uploaded pictures, not the whole lot yet, it takes a while ...
Yes, practice, practice and more practice, you will be surprised how far you can get with practice. Good luck!
I agree Yana, your cakes are fabulous! Love them all! ![]()
