I am making a lemon cake for a family BBQ this weekend and I would love to do a simple yellow frosting with white polka dots in butter cream, but I don't know how; do you pipe a big blob and then smoosh it down? I would love some ideas...

I melt some colored choc. melts, spread the melted chocolate thin on parchment and then cut out the size I want with the end of a pastry tip and attach them to the cake using the BC frosting if I have to.

Your best bet since time is short is to check out www.wilton.com. It is Wilton's website and it has a link to tutorials that walk you through it with photos. Basically, you pipe a little blob, stop squeezing the bag, then pull the tip around and away to the side - not straight up. The pics on Wilton's site will show you what I'm talking about. Good Luck and have fun! I love the look of dots on cake!

Thanks! I thought I would probably have to smooth with my finger but now I know which tip to use! And I will check out the tutorial...
