I've made some chocolate decorations (for a cake) that I would like to paint black. Can anyone tell me how to do that? It sounds like maybe I could mix super black Americolor with flo-coat to make a black paint that won't bead up. Is that right--or necessary? icon_confused.gif

Not much help here, but it sounds like you have the right idea. Flo-coat should work to thin the paint a bit. Just make sure there isn't any water in your brush when you do it.

You can also use candy color to make the chocolate black, which works better in my opinion.

Are you talking about Wilton's candy color? I can just paint with it?

(I tried coloring the already brown chocolate black, but I ran out of the powder I had before it ever got very black. So now I'm thinking painting it would work.)

Yes, wilton has candy color, but I like chefmasters better because it comes in a squeeze bottle. You still need a lot of it though to color your chocolate black. I dont really know about painting onto chocolate with it though.

What is it you are trying to paint exactly? could you just do a chocolate transfer?

I just watched an episode of Sugar Rush where the guy visited a person who painted on chocolate. He used heated up cocoa butter and certain colored spices to achieve the colors he wanted. I'm sure you could use cocoa butter and powdered food coloring to do the same thing.

When I want black I use lemon extract and black powder coloring. THEN you can also use Wilton Spray Black to give it a little shine.

I just have several small figures that will serve as sillouettes on a cake. I had tried to color the chocolate, but even lots of black powder only got it from medium brwon to dark brown. I'm going to try painting with candy color. We'll see... icon_cool.gif
