Help! I am new to cake making and my last 2 cakes have come out of the oven sort of sticky on the bottom. The top looks fine. Any ideas? Am I maybe spraying too much non-stick on the bottom or need to cook the cake a little longer?

I made one last night for my 2nd Wilton cake and could not even ice it.

Thanks.

I don't know what you mean by 'sticky'. Did the cake stick to the pan? Do you line your cake pans with parchment? Try that and see if you see improvement. Do not grease the parchment.

The cake on the bottom once it has cooled in the pan for 10 mins then removed to my cooling roack is sticky to the touch. Is this normal?

I ALWAYS use flour or parchment on the bottom of my pans to prevent this. If it's still sticky after that, there may be a problem with the moisture in your batter, or the pan isn't close enough to the bottom of the oven. Try moving your rack down a notch and see if this helps. And make sure you use parchment or flour on the pan.
