I made this cake for one of the police officers that works with my husband. I knew 3 weeks ago that I had to make this cake but could not get inspired to do it. Originally his wife wanted a cake with an edible photo image on it, but honestly, that did not challenge me at all. I did know that I wanted to make a square cake. I made a few sketches and still did not come up with something I loved. I guess I had to sit in front of the ocean with a piece of paper to get the inspiration for this cake! I went fishing with my husband this past friday and came up with some ideas. I immediately called her to find out what he liked doing such as hubbies, sports, what foods he liked, etc., and that is how this cake came to be!
The Elmo topper is a long story....!!!
I hope you enjoy looking at it as much as I enjoyed making it!
Sandra
Wow..this looks great! How long did it take you??
Isn't it fantastic when the Muse fights you day in and day out until a new idea is born? And Walla some of the best works come out of these tugs-o-war matches........
Your design was very eclectic and looks like a very fun cake for the birthday person.
How did your client like it?
Thank you guys for your great comments. It took me a good couple of days of intense work. The handcuffs were done free hand looking at my husbands real hand cuffs! I used gumpaste and silver duster lust.
Our friend loved it and said that it was the best part of his surprise birthday party!
Wow!! I love fun cakes like this. Looks like so much work, but definitely worth it.
I'd love to know how you made the handcuffs. My SIL is a police officer and is spreading the word about my cookies. Might have to make some handcuffs in the future. ![]()
THIS IS SO FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!
as someone who's never had a decorated birthday cake in their life, i know the worth of that special memory he will always have...i guarantee you that you can ask him about it in 50 years, and it'll still be a huge thing. you did wonderful!!!!!
Awesome cake - give yourself a big pat on the back!
and Duster Lust?? hehe...
This cake is beautiful! It's great that you incorporated so many of his hobbies and likes.
As I was looking at the side with the handcuffs, I was wondering what the PSL stood for. Then I saw your location. My family & I were in Port St. Lucie last June. My FIL lived there at the time. He's in Vero Beach now and we might be heading there in August.
I guess I had to sit in front of the ocean with a piece of paper to get the inspiration for this cake!
Sit in front of the ocean?????? Ughhhhhh....SO NOT FAIR!!!
I WANT TO LIVE NEAR A WARM OCEAN!
Awesome cake, too!
lol....I always do that!!! Duster Lust....you know what I meant, right?! English is my second language and I frequently mess up my words!
A lot of my cakes are busy, but that is just the way I like them...they are just like my scrapbooking pages, which is the other thing that I love to do. I almost cannot stop adding details!!! It's sickening...I keep thinking of little things and keep going back to add more!
I did the handcuffs free hand with gumpaste. The birthday guy is an officer in the City of Port St. Lucie and a SWAT Team member. He was so thankful, I heard him a couple of times asking people "Did you see the cake"?!
Thanks to all of you for your feedback!
Your cake is soooooooooooooooooooo coooooooooool!!!! It's so colorful and happy and a great idea!
What an awesome cake!!! It is so creative and fun!
All I can say is...WoW!
Looks like you made a scrapbook into a cake! Beautiful Job!
I agreee, it's a scrapbook of a cake. I couldn't help but notice the "B" in the distinct shape of the Boston Red Sox ... how did that come about? As I see you're not from Mass.
