I am wanting to build one, but am unsure of dimensions. Has anyone made one or does anyone have any ideas for one? I need one for about 50 cupcakes this Thursday......

Do you want round, square etc..I would make it the same size as cakepans....12,10,8,6 or leave out the 12.You know those cheap cardboard cupcake stands you can buy...I would buy one just to see how it is constructed and opens up,then you can build your own nicer!!

Off topic.. icon_redface.gif Do I need a hand beater to make Swiss buttercream..I don't have one!!What else can I use!!

I just use my stand KA. First with the whisk, then change to the paddle when adding the butter. HTH!!!

Thanks!! That does help!!! Don't I have to mix over the stove in a bowl like a double boiler with a thermometer if I remember reading the directions correctly??

Sorry for the questions!

here's an idea -- if you have access to someone who can work w/ wood.

although I drew a square base, works just as well w/ a round base.

use 3/4 inch plywood for base and vertical support. glue and screw support to base (or if the person doing this is really talented and has the tools...dovetail support to base, this will allow you to change base shapes easily)

the slots in the upright should be a tight fit for what ever type of plate you will use.. my suggestion -- thin sheets of masonite...these can be bought from many cake shops already cut to standard cake plate sizes.

this system allows you to use any shape plate

HOWEVER...I'd wimp out, grab my michaels/ a.c.moore or hobby lobby coupon and get the floating tier stand that Wilton makes.

then again there's the really cheap (using coupon) styrofoam and cardboard stand too.

I can't believe the Wilton's 3 tier stand is made of styrofoam and cardboard! I almost bought that thing! Thanks for sharing and saving me a couple of bucks.

Thatks Doug...that is an awesome sketch! I love that idea also! I did look at the floating tier yesterday, but backed out! I wish I would have had a coupon and I probably would have got it!!!

Euphoria - thanks! I had PM'ed Helen earlier and she said she was going to do one since so many had been asking about it!

Thanks to you all for helping!!!
