You could try and make the character out of fondant and place on cake. A bct is another option. Here are a few pics that you could possibly use for bct.

OK, I looked at the above pics and I think a 3D cake is doable depending on the time and energy you want to put forth. If you make a basic cake thats mabie 4 full layers, that could be the body alone. Then you would need to figure out the legs and ams (maybe fondant or modeling chocolate) and the head (maybe a couple of 6 inch layers with fondnat accents) and just have him sitting on the floor with his legs crossed or something. Just an idea. Good luck and please post what you make, I would love to see it.

thanks for the pictures and ideas....im still deciding whether to do bender as the full cake...or do a cake with a space theme and have him as a fondant figure on top. if i did bender as a full cake what would i cover him in? i think it will we quite hard to do fondant...any ideas? and if i did bender on the top a cake what should i make him out of...i find fondant is quite hard to model with. be grateful if anybody knew of any recipes or methods.

if you do bender as the whole cake........I would think fondant would be the easiest!!! you could do BC if you absolutely wanted to.....but with the fondant it would be a lot easier to make it grey and then go over it with some silver luster dust or something!!! I think this cake is gonna be really cool!!! Can't wait to see what you come up with~~............why do you think fondant is hard to model??? What kind do you use?? Have you tried the MMF from this site.......I think it's extremely easy to work with...I've never had any issues with it1

theres so many recipes for mmf..i dont know which one to choose!...i use the ready made sugarpaste fondant and i colour it myself...but its hard to model coz things go floppy, and when it dries it leaves cracks in it....plus i think if i do bender as the whole cake...i wouldnt no where to start covering..i can never do it right..i get creases and it starts to stretch and pulls marks in it. maybe im just not cut out for cake making! o yeah....how would i do the antenna thing ontop of his head?

Isn't there some drink he drinks all the time, like a beer or something?? I would include that. My husband loves this show. Good luck. I might only do a 3d cake of him from like the waist up.

http://www.cakecentral.com/cake_recipe-1949-Marshmallow-Fondant-MMF.html

here is the recipe for the MMF I use all the time it works wonderfully, it's very easy to model and to smooth on a cake....also..for the top of bender, the antena...I would use a pretzel rod and cover it with grey MMF and then put a ball of MMF on the top and the base on the bottom of it...shouldn't be too difficult!! Also, you say you get cracks in the fondant when it dries??? Maybe you're adding too much powdered sugar or cornstarch when you're working with it....trying lightly greasing your surface and hands with shortening instead....it works really well.

Amylou made this diet pepsi can cake which is about the same shape as bender's body.....you can use fondant for his arms and legs and just make this basic shape for his body...maybe having him sitting up with his legs coming out and arms down at his sides....the head I'm sure you could do with um....maybe some cupcakes or smaller cakes stacked up and the top could be the rounded top of a cupcake or the mini wonder mold thingy..........I'm sure you could do the whole thing in Buttercream if you don't like working with fondant ...being that he's mostly just grey!!!! Try the viva paper towel trick for smoothing him out and use a crusting Buttercream. good luck

Bender looks awesome! You did a great job, no matter how short you think you came to the image in your head (we all do that). It looks great and definitely has a WOW factor. Good job! icon_wink.gif
