Just got an order for a 60th wedding anniversary cake that will need to travel 3 hours. Tried to talk customer into separate tiers either with columns or on graduated cake stands, but she really wants the stacked cakes.

Not a big cake, 8", 7" and 6". They only want one layer of each (very small family get-togther). Any ideas for a design that will look good with just one layer. Customer liked the quilted sides but won't get that same look with one layer. Thought about ivory base frosting with white rosed around each layer but that may be too over-powering.

Any ideas??? BTW--the anniversary lady used to decorate cakes and from what I hear she made awesome roses. I think they were royal icing because daughter said they were hard but edible. TIA--Pam

You could tort them, that would make them a bit taller.

I only make my roses from royal....they're easier to make, IMHO, than from bc; but yes they do get hard!!

I think you could still do your roses around the layers but maybe make smaller roses.

Piping small beads/dots to look like pearls might work.
