I just covered a board with cellophane tissue, the clear kind that can be used for gift bags, easter baskets, etc. Anyway, my question is, do I need to cover it with the contact paper or is ok as is?

Thanks,
Kim

mmmmmmmmm.....it could be okay....but when they cut the cake they might slice through it......I would probably cover it with the contact paper just to make sure nobody ends up with it in their slice of cake LOL

That's a good point! I went ahead and covered it with the contact paper! Thanks for the help!!!

With the contact paper in place, you can use your board again if you are there to retrieve it-you can wash it off really well!

I just had my husband cut me a board the other night that will fit in my biggest cake box then I covered it in wrapping paper and contact paper. Now I can re-use it any time I want. I just wiped it off with a damp paper towel and put it back withthe rest of my supplies.
Of course I got in a little trouble though. I didn't ask my husband for the board or tell him where I got it. Turns out it was something he was saving icon_redface.gif . I did say before though that he and the boys had better watch their toys and tools or they would become decorating supplies icon_lol.gif

You can also use disposable table clothes...the kind that are like paper but have a coating of thin plastic on the back side. I think the paper top is coated with some sort of water proof material too. I used one on my baby shower cake "Peachy Mother to be" if you want to check it out. I found it in the wedding section of a party story. Worked great! I even used it to cover a wooden block that the cake sat on when displayed at the shower. I wrapped a matching bow around the block as well. Beside that sat another lower wooden block covered to match that had one of those silver baby buggies on it with matching flowers inside. Guess I should upload it sometime!!!

Ellyrae,
I love your cake. My friend and I thought that was probably the best in the contest. Great work.

Awww icon_redface.gif Thank you so much for saying that but there were soooooo many awesome cakes in that contest its really impossible to pick "the best"!!! I'm looking forward to the next contest....whenever they announce it!!!! icon_sad.gif

I'll go ahead and upload the pic of it displayed at the shower. I was a bit sad that I couldn't dress up the table more for the shower! The girls who threw the shower said they had the table taken care of but when I got there, the stuff they had totally clashed with the cake...they knew the colors I was going with but they got all pink, blue, yellow and mint green. All "baby'ish" stuff too. So, I found a quick lacy table cloth (it was at our church) and placed the cake in a different area on another table, which they were happy about. They said they had run out of time to get matching colors/decor so they had to stop at the last minute on the way to church that day and get what they could find! icon_sad.gif

Anyway, even though the table is kind of bare, it still looked nice thumbs_up.gif Oh, and the wooden blocks I had my husband make for me which have come in handy for cake risers and soooo many other things!! There are three heights all together. I can either wrap them like gifts or cover them with pools of fabric.

Thanks again for the compliment! icon_rolleyes.gif You can see the display picture in the gallery as soon as I get it uploaded. I would put it here but the pixels are too large!!
blessings,
