Dream Whip For Filling Ding Dong Cake?

Hello all,
I recently made the Ding Dong cake from the recipe here. Hubby took it to work for everyone to try, and it seems that they all enjoyed it! (They split the whole cake between EIGHT people! That cake should have fed sixteen people!)
One observation that my hubby made was that the filling, though good, was not exactly like the filling in a Ding Dong or Hostess Cupcake.
I thought that perhaps Dream Whip would be the right colour, consistency and taste to fill the cake, but I don't know how it would stand up as a cake filling.
Has anyone used Dream Whip to fill a cake? I would love to hear how it worked!
