I have looked at previous posts, looked at websites and I still can't decide how big to make my DD's 3rd birthday cake. I want to make it extra special for her because her first birthday we just ordered a cake from the grocery store because she was so sick with strep throat and I didn't know when we would be celebrating her birthday (she also had a broken collar bone). I didn't make her 2nd birthday cake because I was very sick just the month before in the hospital on life support for 2 weeks (pneumonia and completely fine now)... Anyway, I'm a bit off topic....
I want to make her a Strawberry Shortcake themed birthday cake. I was going to make the one from the Wilton 2006 yearbook, but decided I really didn't have that much time to do all the extra little details on that cake since we are trying to get our house ready to go up for sale too this week. Anyway, what size would be best for 35 people? 12 of them will be kids (most 3 and under). I want to do a 2-tier cake and I have 3" pans. I was thinking either a 10" and 8" or a 10" and 6"..... What do you think will look best and will serve the number of people I want to serve... I don't mind leftovers, actually my co-workers might enjoy it ![]()
TIA ![]()

I think a 10" and a 6" would look best and would be plenty of cake. Would you be doing double layers? When I make 2 tiers, I always use the 10 and 6 but I make double layers, and I know that would be enough cake.
I would do the 10 and 6. It would give you just the right amount of good sized pieces (2x2). So you might even have some leftovers if you cut a little smaller. A 2x2 is a pretty big piece for a child. Plus I think it would look better than a 10 and 8. I did it once and it just didnt look quite right.
Your poor little girl has had some rough birthdays=( Wishing her a GREAT birthday this year!! Jen
Thanks for the replies! I'm just doing single layers as they are 3" pans - I will torte them at least once, but usually twice for a good tall layer that it a bit more then 3" tall.
Thanks for the suggestions on the 10" and 6". That was what I was thinking....
