Is the Wilton gumpaste mix the same as gum-tex? I am making cupcakes from the 2006 yearbook and the recipe says to add 2 teaspoons Gum-tex to 24oz fondant. Can I use gum-paste powder instead?

THX so much. I'm so glad I found this site. EVERYONE has been so nice and helpful. it's really a great community!!

Once I get my answer I'm off to make about 500 little petal loops!! First cupcake order though so I'm excited!!!

You would add gum-tex (wilton brand) or some other brand (I use Tyloce) to regular fondant to turn it into gumpaste making it harder when it dries.

If you've got gum-paste powder - I'm guessing that is a gum-past ready to make mix. I would just make the mix and skip the fondant since that is what you were going for in the first place.

I hope that helps.

Are they edible?
Sorry if my question sounds silly as I'm very new in fondant/gum paste.

Thanks.

All of that stuff is edible....but - I wouldn't eat it! Gumpaste drys very hard and does not taste good. You could get a belly ache and break a tooth. Use the gumpaste for accents and decorations - stick to fondant for covering cakes and eating.
