Okay, this one isn't to offend anyone, just asking what gives you the heebie jeebies when looking at decorated cake styles. Some on here have posted that they don't like topsy turvy. Others say they don't like body parts (I don't like them either, don't like cutting in to a puppy or a kitty either). Personally, I cannot stand to see plastic "stuff" on a cake. There is no rhyme or reason to it, I just don't like the plastic. (I think it's a childhood spent trying to get icing off of those delicate swirls in the spiral staircases my mother used).

Anyone else?

Toilet humour cakes - "anatomy" cakes that are really graphic or realistic (cartoony body parts aren't as bad).

Personally, when I make a cake I want it to look good enough to eat. If it doesn't look edible, then I feel I've failed. icon_biggrin.gif

What's a who haw cake??

I agree with the kitty litter/toilet cakes. ewww. I don't mind the toilets as long as they don't have anything in them.

Well, I'd make one if a customer asked me to though. Money talks icon_lol.gif

I like the topsy turvy cakes. I think they're fun-looking. I'd like to try to do one sometime.

It took me longer than you LaSombra. I was trying to figure out why in the world anyone would have a problem with pork and beans - figured it was similar to my plastic aversion, and let it rest. It wasn't until an hour or so after reading LaSombra's post that it dawned on me - OH, THAT'S WHAT SHE MEANT!

I'm with you on the plastic stuff. I don't know why, I just like for everything on the cake to be edible. It doesn't make sense, because no one in their right mind would eat a rock hard fondant figure...And you can't even keep them for the kids to play with. But hey, we all have to have our hangups, I guess icon_rolleyes.gif

I agree...I don't like plastic stuff on cakes....but, shel....I make the fondant stuff to be saved by the client...they LOVE that. If you put a fondant piece in your china closet, it will harden and look like a piece of porcelain.

I also have seen a 911 cake in the shape of the twin towers (I used to view them from my balcony icon_sad.gif ) Personally...that struck a chord in me....I didn't think it was appropriate.

Those naughty cakes are out of my field also.

Now, please tell me about the beans and franks...I don't get it icon_rolleyes.gificon_confused.gif

Well men can zip the frank up in their pants and the beans well....under the franks....and if you ever watch Greys Anatomy .... when the head of the training doctors was pregnant she called what I call the who haw a vajj. I don't know how else to explain and not offend anybody.

ok my list goes on and on and it's pretty much everything listed here already.....

Kitty litterbox cakes, love my cat don't love his toilet

toilet cakes....don't like my toilet either especially an unflushed one.

private part cakes, I have small kids could never make one if I wanted.

body parts, and bleeing body parts. Just gross especially if you are really good!!!!!!!

plastic things on cakes... two words Wal Mart
(NOTE: I do not mean to offend anyone, what I mean by this if you call a custom cakes person for a cake with plastic things on it, you are wasting your time and the decorators time, so you should go to WalMart there is no problem with a Walmart cake when you need a quick cake, or a plain cake with plastic toys on it Walmart is the place.)

I just don't like them and can't believe I am guilty of buying them because I didn't know any better before my cake classes.

I am also guilty of buying novelty cakes P.... cakes for my sister's bacholerette party.

I don't like plastic things either but to get around the copyright issues, you kinda have to go with Decopac to get licensed items. I'd love to do a FBCT of Dora or Thomas...but I'm afraid of the copyright issue. I don't get things like the generic items that I could be making out of gumpaste or piping on the cake but for licensed characters, I do. I try to be more original with them though by putting some added touches to the cakes or making them a different shape than just a 1/4 sheet cake.

Also, I think that the experience of having a homemade cake is more than just decoration. I like to think my cakes taste better than Wal-marts too icon_wink.gif

As much as I hate the plastic stuff, I've had it put on my kids' cakes simply - because. But now, I REFUSE to let my kids wear character clothing - not a single Dora, Barbie, whatever shirt in my house. Just another freaky hangup. It's the same way with books. I'm a book snob in that I don't want a cartoon character book in the house when there's an entire row of Caldecotts and Newberrys right there at the book store.

And while I have my plastic "issue" - I have put glass on a cake for my oldest who is a science nut and amazingly, it didn't make me twitch. I filled beakers and test tubes with different types of candies and made his cake into a science lab.

We're kinda the same way. I tell my kids, "When Nike starts wearing T-shirts with "Cater It Simple" on it, then I'll spend my money to advertise THEIR company!"

That's a good idea. I really ought to do that. I feel bad though not letting my little Thomas enthusiast wear Thomas shirts though icon_redface.gif

My older one doesn't wear that type of thing much though. I like to get nice-looking clothes for him for school.
