Alright.....I have no idea what it is called, but I've seen it somewhere. I'm new at the cake decorating thing and for my neices 13th birthday I'm making her a cake and I wanted to kinda make a number "13" cake topper out of royal icing or chocolate that will stick into the cake. I tried to pipe it onto wax paper with RI, I stuck toothpicks in the bottom of the numbers to stick into the cake and hold them up, and then when it dried I was going to attempt to peel the wax paper off and then pipe over the back of the numbers to cover the toothpicks. What I'm wondering is how to get the numbers "smooth" without any bumps (the problem could be my very unsteady piping hand). Am I even going about it the right way?? Does any of this make any sense?? Any help would be appreciated!!
TIA!!! : )
I think if you use parchment paper - it won't stick too bad. Also I did the 3D number/letters for my High School Musical cake in fondant. It was really easy! If you can roll a "snake" you can do it! Allow 4 days to dry completely! Just roll out - shape into numver - insert skeweer - and dry!
