I have someone looking for a baseball cake. I won't have to make it for a little while yet, but I am kind of stumped for ideas. They want to incorporate the Cardinals, and so last night while I had some time I made a candy clay cardinal.
Any ideas on how to use it?

You could make a baseball diamond and put him in the middle. He is very cute!
You could also do anything for baseball ( bat, ball, glove) and just place him on the cake.
I'm sure you will come up with something really nice!
Good luck!

You could make your cake look like a baseball (round cake, white icing, red stitch markings) with the Cardinals logo in the center with your centerpiece sitting right on that. The logo that I'm talking about is just the word Cardinals written in cursive. The bat and redbird sit on top of that. You have probably seen it since your cardinal on the bat looks very similar to the one always shown with it. If not you can do a google image search and find it pretty easily.

By the way, great job on the cardinal!! I'm a Cards fan myself. Would you mind sharing how you did it??

You did a great job with your cardinal! I like the idea of making a round baseball cake and putting him on there. I think he would show up well on the white frosting. You could also do a sheet cake with half of the ball pan on top. You could make the sheet cake look like grass and then place the little bird on top of the ball.

I guess it also depends on how many people you will need to feed. icon_smile.gif

Thanks for the ideas!
I just shaped him out of candy clay. First I made the body in a teardrop shape, stretching out the back a little further. Then I added two flat teardrops as wings. The head was just a round ball, with a little piece of chocolate fondant as his "mask", and white and chocolate fondant as the eyes. The beak is a triangle shape, just pressed onto the face, as well as his little mohawk and back feathers.
The candy clay I was working with was EXTREMELY sticky, so everything stuck really well - too well, no mistakes allowed!

the cardinal is so cute! I haven't tried any figures yet... I'm a little scared to! Is candy clay any easier than fondant or gumpaste?
