I have been trying to find something on the forum about how to get edges smooth on BC icomg. I haven't been able to locate it. I know it's here somewhere. Can someone tell me where to look. Thanks

I read that some people use a straight edge purchased from a hardware store.

I discovered this tool just a few weeks ago. Man, what a difference this makes! this tool and a turntable and we are done!

In my photos, "Chris's Shower Cake" is one I used this tool on. "Autumn Pearls" is another .... even tho this one is a stryrofoam, you can see an un-bordered BC edge on the close up of the bottom tiers.

When you say "straight edge" what exactly are you referring to? icon_confused.gif I can think of 3 or 4 different tools know as straight edge. TIA! icon_smile.gif

A flat edged tool used to apply drywall compound. They come in lots of different sizes. I have 5-6" one to make sure it goes the entire height of my cake. they also come in plastic or metal. I've also used what is called a dough cutter or a dough scraper - this link has a photo. http://www.foodservicedirect.com/index.cfm/S/313/N/85346/Adcraft_Dough_Scrapers.htm

Thanks! thumbs_up.gif I have one of these and it also has measurements on it. It is a 6" so I can measure anything up to that. I have never used it for squaring up the corners on my square cakes but I'll give it a try on the next one.

Do you prefer the straight edge tool over the Melvira (high density foam roller)method? Or are these two methods used for different purposes? I would like to get nicer edges on my corners and at the top of my 9X13 pan and the top of my round cake pans.

What is the secret to nice crisp edges at the top of your cakes?
