I need to make a doll cake with the cake as the skirt and wanted to know where to buy a "naked" doll? Are there ones specially made for cakes or just get any old doll from any store? Also I have the Pampered Chef large batter bowl and wondered if that was good to make the "skirt" of the cake? Thanks in advance for your answers!

i know you can get them at the craft store. its the torso and head w/ a stick instead of legs. i think they're called "doll picks". i'm sure you could find lots of different looking ones online also
no idea about the pan though, sorry.

I have seen them at craft stres and local cake decorating stores, But you can push a real doll down in there too, you can get one at the dollar store, and just kinda bend the legs, and ice her up, then the little girl can take her out, give her a bath andplay with the doll too...

I have used actual Barbie Dolls for this pan as well. I like to wrap the legs with plastic wrap and then stick her in the cake. I usually cut the hole bigger so I don't destroy the cake. icon_smile.gif

Walmart is the cheapest place to get it. It is in the craft area!!!!

Personally, I go with the full size Barbie type doll because I just like the looks of their faces and their hair better than the doll pick dolls. The dollar store has some that are obviously cheaper than real Barbies and you can always pull the legs off. ( oh man..that sounds so mean.) But most little girls like to keep the doll so I just use the whole doll and make another cake underneath the dome part so the legs fit.

You wouldn't "have" to use a "bowl" cake for the dress either. You can use 3 layers of cake which works well also. I usually use a 9",8",6" stacked. You have to do some trimming of the top edges of each layer and fill the gaps with a little icing but it works well if you don't have access to a bowl pan. You can really get the dress to "flare" this way too!! Just another idea for you and who ever else might be interested. Oh, and I always use the whole doll too and with 3 layers of cake, she goes all the way in. =o)

I was told by a pampered chef consultant that you can use the large batter bowl for barbie's dress. I haven't tried it yet, don't know how much batter either, but I am planning to try it out. Let us know how your's turns out, Susan94.

If I were making the doll cake for my daughter, I would use the barbie, because they are much prettier. But if you're doing them for a paying customer, it would be much cheaper if you used the doll picks or ask them if they want to pick out a barbie for you to use.

I've seen that Pampered chef thing. It'll work - just be sure your center is cooked since it doesn't have a heating core.

I have found decent fake Barbie's at the dollar store. Sometimes they need a new hair-do, but they're nice. If it's for a friend, I'll usuallt buy the nice barbie and wrap her and her dress and part of the gift. Hey, they practically get free cakes, no one would complain!!!

I will let you know (and of course add the photo to the galleries) when I do the cake. I haven't been to Wal-Mart in a Looooonnnng time and so I hope I know where to find the doll for the cake.
