When you make a cake using a character pan, do you do a two layer or torte the one layer? I'm making a blue bunny cake for my BIL's birthday on Sunday and haven't figured out if the cake should be one layer or two.

Help would be greatly appreciated. icon_smile.gif

I just use a regular cake mix like Duncan Hines if it is a regular sized character pan. I don't do a 2 layer cake. HOpe this helps!! Happy Easter

I have never tried making one with two layers but I have torted them. Just be careful to line it all back up.

Which pan are you using? Some can be cut in 2 layers, but most can't because all the detail makes the top layer very unstable and likely to break when you move it icon_eek.gif ! If I want to do 2 layers I usually make a sheet cake and either cut to the shape of the pan once the character shape cake is on top, or just leave it as it is for extra servings - hope that helps!

I've actually done it both ways. The very first cake I made out of class (Easter basket with bunny) I did not torte it. It was pretty small. Since then, I have made several characters pan, torting and also baking two and stacking them on top of each other. As mcalhoun said, be sure they are lined back up. HTH

I did my first one just last night and did not layer or torte it. Just made the mix and filled 2/3 full. Turned out great.

It's a cake pan that I've had for years and unfortunately I don't know the make. It is smaller then the Wilton bunny pan that you can currently buy.

Thanks for all your suggestions. icon_smile.gif
