My dad had a way of decorating -

he threw frosting on, and added jelly beans icon_confused.gif

I always loved it, because he made it himself just for me thumbs_up.gif

Just wondering what other "decorating" ideas there are out there!

My mother is an example of how NOT to decorate. LOL. I do have to say that she tried, twice. Those two tries were snoopy and a cat and both were great. Thats about it. My favorite deco-nightmares from her were when the cake broke (happened all the time) and she attampted to "glue" it back together with frosting that was stiff enough to make roses. All that, and when I first started to learn and brought a cake to her house to show her and my sister what I had learned so far, she was giving me advise...till she saw the cake after I finished icing it. I think she gave in there...must be the first time this year. LOL. Of course I can't talk. Until I started taking classes, my idra of cake was usually crooked and crumby. Gotta start somewhere though.

Aren't parents great? Kids, too! My son (7) tries to help, so I usually let him have a small cake to decorate. It is impossible to eat the cake without inhaling the bottle of sprinkles he adds to it! lol Gotta love him!

He is, however, great at taste-testing! Polite, too. "Mom, this just tastes a little funny" as about as rude as he gets with it. Usually, I can just tell by how much he is willing to eat. My daughter won't usually test for me, tho. She's 4, and said last week when I was having her test 3 kinds of cake ~ "Mom, I don't think I am supposed to have this much sugar." I about died laughing! Never have to worry about HER hips!

My moms ideas of baking a cake is to bake it in a glass pyrex pan then glop on a canned icing and call it a day - I always joke with her - b/c it cracks me up how you can see the cake through the pyrex pan and then the layer of icing on top! LOL - I always tease her in good fun - she's a good sport! They're always trying to find a way to sucker me into making my own bday cakes- but I never fall for it! She usually tries to recruit my kids in helping her bake and decorate it so she can blame the outcome on them!! LOL - My birthday is coming up on Sunday (Easter) and I am absolutely looking forward to my chocolate pyrex cake with canned vanilla icing!!! It wouldn't be a birthday for me without it!

How sweet! There are some things that are traditions, that should never change.
