Hi! I just had a request for a parrot for a 4 year old girls birthday party. She is very into pirates, but she doesn't want a pirate cake....She wants a pirate parrot cake (one of just a parrot...complete with pirate eye patch). It cracks me up because she is definitely a woman who knows what she wants...especially for a 4 year old ![]()
I looked in the gallery and there all all sorts of cute ideas, but I need help in the logistics of making it. Should I go 3D or carve the shape? I was thinking about putting some shaped pans together to form the body, but I need some creativity. Any help would be appreciated.
You guys are awesome!
ok..how's this.
2 6 inch rounds at base.
then a cakeboard (doweled)
on top of that -- upside down wondermold w/ top 1/3 cut off.
then a cake board (doweled)
then a wondermold right side up.
then stuck on the one big long dowel that goes all the way through and extends at least 2 in above cake...
a ball of rice krispies for the head
carve the 6 inch tiers to look rounded on the front like a long and take the excess and "cake spackle" it to the back side to start building up the tail.
carve upside down mold only on front to add definition to body as if sitting slightly toward back of the log.
cover in BC or fondant (fondant probably easier to emboss to look like feathers)
the green parts indicate pieces made out of gumpaste/fondant: the beak (don't forget to stick a little red tongue in there!), the hat (ok - I failed hat drawing), the claws, the wings, the tail, the eye patch, and of course, tucked under his right wing -- his cutlass!
