I was letting my 4 yo son help me with rbc the other night (gave him his own to knead) and he goes on saying 'do you know what would be cool for my next birthday? if we put cupcakes all together and decorate them...a cupcake cake!' so I ask where he saw or heard that from (he hasn't seen or heard of it from me), maybe school?!? and he says he just thought of that himself. icon_lol.gif

I have seen this done in my local grocery store. It was an animal figure, done in green icing. I believe it was an alligator (or something like that). It looked different and something that kids would like.

On the Today show a month ago or so they had Giada De Laurentiis and her "favorite" kitchen things. One was a silicone mold that she said will be available soon at Target (I can't find it anywhere yet though icon_rolleyes.gif ) Anyway, it was an alligator but each part of the gator was a little square cupcake. After baking and unmolding, these cupcakes fit together to become an alligator cake. You could tell they were cupcakes after it was frosted but when you take a piece, no cutting needed, it looks like a cupcake. Really cool! I think kids would love it. thumbs_up.gif

Sorry, that should have read "you could not tell they were cupcakes...." on the end of my last post.

Here is a description from the today show website:

Cake Molds

This is so cute! Create and celebrate pull-apart cupcake molds. Fill the silicone mold with cake mix and bake. Then push the cupcakes together and decorate one fun cake that you don't need to cut. Mold is dishwasher safe as well as safe for everything else, fridge, freezer, oven. And they're non-stick.

Comes in fun shapes like butterfly, turtle and alligator. Some shapes are available now at Target, others are coming very soon.

Pull-apart cupcake molds
$20 at Target

Ah ahh - I think I have seen that pan (alligator) in Target that you are talking about just recently. Will have to look more closely next time I am there.

That's too cool! I'll definitely be looking for those. I love the convenience of cupcake cakes. The only place I've seen ccc's are here on cc....with transfers and stuff on top icon_razz.gif

Yeah I've seen the turtle one. I would have bought it, but I don't have a use for it right now. Maybe I'll buy it anyway. icon_lol.gif I just won't tell DH. shhh.gif
