All the difference in the world. Try Fondx sometime too, I think you will like it. Actually for rolling and enrobing a cake I like Fondx better than Satinice, both smell and taste pretty good.

Nothing is as bad as Wilton, taste wise that is. Try a bunch of different brand, and try making your own. You'll be pleasently surprised.

It smells too much like playdough for my liking. Nothing compares to mmf.

You like the taste of Wilton fondant?? icon_confused.gif Really?? Most people don't like it. I think it's great to work with, just not eat.

I just ordered 5 pounds of the santinice too and I am addicted. It came today super fast from intheoven.com (I ordered 2 days ago and paid regular shipping) and it tastes wonderful. The smell isn't great but the taste is!!

I always describe the Wilton Fondant like a taffy. Doesn't really have much flavor and taffy texture almost. I am going to make MMF this weekend! Satinice will be when I am actually making some money! icon_lol.gif

I have Satin Ice and Wilton Fondants because I am in classes requiring lots of fondant right now and I quickly ran out of the Satin Ice and had to go buy a 5 pound box of Wilton to get me through the week. Because of all the "bad" I have read about the Wilton I added almond and vanilla flavoring to it before rolling it out and I thought it was just fine. Without the flavorings it does leave a lot to be desired, but, try adding some extract to it and see what you think. Honestly, I think it is as good as the Satin Ice WITH the flavorings added.
This weekend I am going to be making my own Fondant from 2 or 3 different recipes I have retrieved and if they are as good as I hear they are then Satin Ice and Wilton Fondants both will be history. icon_lol.gif

I have recently made the eay mmf (it dissentigrated when picked up). Then I made rolled buttercream, 2 batches later....in the trash. I even added several extra cups of ps, the grease soaked thru the ziplocs onto my pantry shelf (YUK!). Both tasted great. Just couldn't get it to work for me! icon_confused.gif
When I use Wilton, I always add flavoring and extra ps so it's not as bad. People have even told me it was good.
Satin Ice reminds me of marshmellows! thumbs_up.gif

I've tried wilton a couple of times now, and both times they tasted like rancid oil.

How much flavoring do you add to a 24 oz box? I have seriously considering trying this? I work full-time so it would be easier to buy it. I usually make my own using Colette Peter's recipe but it seems to be really soft and extra sugar needs to be keaded when it is humid. I don't always have the time to "pamper" fondant.

Obviously, I don't know to do the quotes. Anyway, how much flavoring is suggested for the 24oz Wilton? Thanks!

To Dabear,
Try regular MMF, not the easy MMF recipe, I actually follow the tutorial here at CC, it works great! I also love Satin Ice!!!!

the part you want in quotes will start with [quote= screenname] and end with [quote]
just make sure you type a couple lines below what you're quoting and it stays separate! thumbs_up.gif

I add about 1 tsp of flavor per pound but can't be exact on that measurement because I just pour a little on the fondant. Years of Scratch cooking dies hard! icon_biggrin.gif Be sure and work a little solid crisco into it too and it will come out beautiful for you.

To do a quote; Look in the top righthand corner of a post and you will see the word "quote". Click on that and you now know how to do a quote. icon_smile.gif

oh, totally no comparison btwn wilton and satin ice! I wonder why Wilton is satisfied with the taste of their fondant. They really should change it.

yh9080- I do like teecakes, I just pour my flavoring(butter, vanilla, or coconut, so far) onto my fondant and I also throw in some powdered sugar.

nefgaby- The problem with mmf- is I don't use gelatin based products, unless they are certified kosher. Wilton and Satin Ice are Kosher fondants.
