I've been asked to do some wedding mints for an upcoming wedding. I went to my supplier to get some molds and asked what I should charge for them. I was told $16 a dozen. That just sounds so unreal to me. The ingredients are not that expensive to make them, why would they cost so much. I just feel awful telling someone they are $16 a doz. Does anyone do these and what do you charge for them? Thank you in advance and God Bless. - Ellie
Wow, I hope they're really big mints for that price!
I have no idea what I'd charge for those, but you are right - it does sound a little much!
I read somewhere maybe here on a past post where each individual molds have a so many per pound inscribed on them and that they charged $15.00 per pound. It would vary as to the size of the pieces. (example this mold has 40 to a pound.) Pam from Bama
They are super cheap to make! Depending on the size of the mold(s), you can usually get at least 5 dozen mints per pound of candymelts. This comes out to somewhere between .03 - .05 cents for each mint. So .25 cents each or $3 per dozen is a huge profit. That comes to about $15 for a POUND.
They can be time consuming though! Especially if you use multi-color detailing on each mint.
Do your math and take into consideration labor and charge an amount that makes a profit that you can live with.
I have to agree with wespam, $15 per POUND would make much better sense to me than $16 per DOZEN. I noticed ya'll speaking of the mints being candymelts. Now the ones I were referring to were the buttermints and the creamchesse mints. But again, as ya'll said, they are very inexpensive to make. Considering the cost to make them, $16 per doz. just isn't anything I could comfortably tell someone and actually charge them. I'd feel much better charging them that for a pound.
I bought a few of the wedding molds to do them, and was told all I had to do was scoop them in sugar, shake them out and fill them with mixture, then turn them out right away. How hard can that be? Yes, they are done one at a time, but that's not all that hard and surely not worth $16 per doz.
Thank you all for you insight in this, I'm starting to not feel so crazy about thinking the way I was now.
Well, I do lots of candy, and when I tried the cream cheese mints, I wanted to give it all up! I couldn't get them to pop out!
After you make the mint mixture make sure you refridge for at least 1 hour - i perfer overnight. then pinch off enough to make one mint and roll in sugar. Make sure that the mint mold has sugar in it and they should dump out really nice. I have 30 doz to make for next weekends weeding and I charged her 10 cents per mint.
Now I wonder if I'm to cheap!
Thank Lisa, $1.20 doz. sounds a whole lot better to me! You know next time I'm over there I'm gonna ask that woman if she meant $16 lb, and not $16 doz. I remember when she told me that, I gave her a look of shock as my mouth just fell open. I even repeated "$16 a DOZEN??!!". She nodded and said yes. But I am going to make a point to talk to her about this again. In the mean time, I will do as Lisa does and charge $1.20 a doz, or even the $15 a pound. There's just NO WAY my conscious will allow me to charge $16 a doz. I'll let ya'll know how this turns out. Thanks for all the input. I knew I hadn't lost my mind competly! ![]()

I charge $15 per hundred.
I also don't use the molds made for theme. I roll the cream cheese mint dough out with granulated sugar and use mini cutters. They are super fast this way. I got tired of getting molds and sometimes they just didn't work right or they wouldn't come out of the molds.
