Free Domains ????

Can you get a free domain to start a web site ? Or do you have to have one. I am trying to register for Freewebs.com, and it says something about a domain. Just trying to see if I need one, and if you can get one for free. The web site is mostly for just my hobby, so I don't want to put to much into it.

I just went and signed up. I didn't see domain anything. I was able to get signed up by just inputting a user name - afriendwhomakescakes and my password and email.
