I have a suggestion. I've read several posts here recently complaining about the slowness of the site and how people are getting frustrated. I have a couple suggestions that I think we ALL should do to help maintain this as a FREE site:

1) - Don't upload multiple pictures of the same cake. We only need to see one view.

2) - Don't repost a duplicate thread because you're not getting the response you feel you should get or in the time-frame that you think you should be. There are thousands and thousands of people on this site - someone is going to read your question - it just might take some time.

3) - Don't post a picture in a forum because you want to make sure you receive comments on it and then post them in the galleries IN ADDITION. The galleries are there for people to look at all the pictures - if people want to make comments, fine; if not, that's there perogative as well.

4) - Don't post a zillion pictures of your kids and animals in the Lounge. This is a cake site where people come and learn and share everything cake related. I understand that people want to share, that's fine but really? I read the thread where people wanted to see pictures of everyone else. There were people that uploaded 5 or more pictures. Overkill??

Just my opinion

Thanks,
Stefanie

I'm sure if there were problems caused by your 4 "suggestions", I'm sure Jackie or Heath would let us know.

Just my opinion.

Slowness of a computer is more often a sign of a virus and other junk in the computer not so much multiple uploading, etc.

I have found that when someone is puting thier pix on CC that I have a slow time with seeing the other pixs. But I just wait a little while and then I can view the other pixs.

I've noticed a slowness of the site as well lately, and it's not caused by people's individual computers. The more information (text, pictures, etc) a site has on it, the more space and other things the server running the site needs. So her post is going in the right direction by asking for less uploads.

I agree with your suggestions except for one - the personal pictures in the Lounge.
Several CC members had requested this some time back and thought it would be a fun addition to the site. Jackie and Heath agreed and posted that it was now being allowed.

It seems like it would make sense that too many pictures might slow the system, however, we've been told many times to continue to post pictures because there was plenty of room for them. Also, as mjs4492 just mentioned Heath and Jackie posted that it was now alright to also post pictures in the Lounge. So I don't believe that either Heath or Jackie feel that the slowness of the site is due to the number of pictures posted.

I think it would also help if we would decrease our pic file size by resizing our pics in a photo program before posting. My Easter cake went from 600 mb to 16 mb by resizing. With the thousands of pics being posted, that would add up to a lot of space, plus a smaller file downloads much faster.

The lounge is specifically meant for off the cake topics. If they didn't want it there they wouldnt of put it I don't guess.

Yeah there is plenty of room for pics, but where uploading fewer pics helps is that the servers have to process each file as it uploads, so for the moment of upload it does take up system resources. If 300 people are all uploading at the same time, that could add up, but once the file is on there, storage space is not an issue.

It does seem a bit unnecessary to upload multiple photos of the same cake. I think many people who decorate cakes (whether beginners or seasoned pros) enjoy the feedback they get, especially from other cake people.
Would it help if those people who choose to post their cakes in forums just post the LINK to their cake in the gallery?

Also.....as a teacher....the main rule about setting rules is always to post them in the positive (ie: upload one photo per cake......Only upload a cake photo to either just the gallery OR a forum......keep personaly photos in the lounge to two, etc).....instead of listing it in the negative (ie: Don't do this.....don't do that, etc)

I don't know why I just shared that, but studies show people are more likely to follow rules posted in that manner than in the negative.

Oh yeah...and donate!

The whole point of my original post was self-discipline. I completely understand the Lounge and the need for that space - but is there really a need to post 5 or 10 pictures???

As far as the other things - I understand that if Heath and Jackie say it's ok, it's ok. Again, my whole point was for everyone in this community to work together to help maintain this site as it was originally intended.

Doesn't your whole family work together to keep your monthly house expenses down (i.e., shutting lights off behind you, conserving water, etc)? Mine sure does. There is no difference in my suggestion for this community?

and Stefy....what would be interesting to know is if the very people who complain aboutthe slowness of the site are the same people who upload multiple cake pics at every possible angle and post photos of their kids, one for each year of their lives!

on a side note, my birthdat is the dat before yours..... D day!
