Does anyone here know this answer or a link to one? I am making a caterpillar cake this weekend with 1/2 sports ball pans ... It is going to be star tipped in different colors .. just wondering how much frosting should I tint for each one?

well, I did mine w/ fondant over chocolate frosting.

and since sis didn't have equipment/room to make icing had to use (shhhh) store bought -- ick....

but be that as it may -- it took three cans of frosting to do the eight humps in my caterpillar.

so allowing for waste & taste -- and for mutlicolors -- at least a double batch of frosting.

and remember, leftovers can be frozen for future use (as if the kids would allow that!)

Here, you can check the sports ball pan instructions online.

It looks like they recommend from 2.5 - 3 cups for each of the sports balls so I would cut that in half and make about 1.5 cups of each color you need. See if you agree:
