I have a NASCAR cake to make by Saturday and just got the order today so I don't have time to go shopping for anything NASCAR to put on the cake. I don't want to do a FBCT because my last one wouldn't freeze. Can someone please tell me how to do a Checkered pattern on the sides of the cake? Thanks.

Maybe colorflow or Royal icing?

You could do squares of black MMF, squares of white MMF.

Could you use an airbrush or Colormist to do the black (on white icing). Just use cardstock or something to block the areas you don't want sprayed?

Hi duncansmom,

I don't know if you saw your pm yet, but I used all buttercream for the checkered pattern. It went really nice for me. I kind of eye balled it. I think that way was easyier for me, instead of cutting all those squares. The nascar logo was done in fbct. I let it freeze for over night. I learned you have to give it time to freeze or your sol. LOL I hope this helps you!! Please let me know!!

There are little Nascar things at like Hobby Lobby or Michael's if one is nearby!
Why not try to decorate in a basket weave but with a flat tip? Then you can just alternate your colors to keep going! I hope your cake turns out whatever you do! icon_biggrin.gif
