Can anyone tell me what colors to mix to get a true blood red? Thanks.

I don't think you can mix it. You have to buy a good quality red food color. Gels are best in my opinion.

I just did a wedding cake this past weekend and I needed a deep, crimson red and it took a long time to find the right shade. I found all of Wilton's and Americolor's were too bright or orangey. I found the perfect red at a local cake shop, but I can't remember the name. Check out my photo gallery, look at the fan wedding cake, and let me know if that's the red you're looking for. Then tonight I'll get the name of the brand and let you know so you can find it or order it. All I remember is the shade was Chinese Red. Or, you may want to try a regular red and add a touch of black to it - just a touch at a time.

I find that adding a touch of brown coloring or even cocoa powder will deepen the red to more of a crimson.

I get the prettiest deep true red by mixing Wilton no-taste red with red powdered candy color. You have to add one drop of water to make sure the powder is completely dissolved, but the color is an intense red.

Thanks Pyxxydust. I like that fan cake. And that's the red I'm looking for. I know I have Chinese red, Actually, I have a lot of red's.lol. I'm going to try finding that powered candy color and see what I get from that. Thanks to everyone. Happy decorating!
