Hello there, I have to make a red velvet cake, and I want to use a cake mix as the base. Most recipes call for the German chocolate mix. I only use DH, but I can't find that flavor, so can I use a regular chocolate cake mix instead? Thanks for any help you can give!!

DH should have a Red Velvet cake mix. I've used it and put 2-3 TBSP of cocoa in it....hope this helps some.

They don't carry that flavor in Canada unfortunately. I know Betty Crocker has German Chocolate, but I hate the taste of their mixes.

I did a search of substitutes and it looks like maybe a milk chocolate cake mix would work the best if you can find that...if not then I would imagine that a regular chocolate mix would work. Maybe someone else has a better suggestion or tip.

Duncan Hines makes a Red Velvet Cake Mix. Do you not have that in Toronto?

No Bethola, they do not carry this in Canada, so I am trying to find a substitute. I think I'll take Tone's advice, and use the Swiss Chocolate mix instead. Thanks everyone
