How do I get a nice gold icing using one of the wiltons colors. I have a cake to do for Easter and it is to late to order any of the Americolor. I would like to put the wilton's shimmer dust on it when it is done to get a more golden look, but I want to start out with a nice color. Also, is shimmer dust the same thing as luster dust? Can it be put on buttercream? How would you apply it? I want to use it on some flowers and thick scrolls piped on the cake. Thanks for any help

If you add just a tch of purple to yellow you will get gold.....just a little tip of a toothpick amount of purple

I would say to use luster dust or an ionizer to spray on gold colour.
Thats my thought

If your looking for a golden like color Wilton has a golden yellow that you can use...however i had learned the hard way that wiltons shimmer dust is not the same in ANYWAY as luster dust.

I did the same thing too ....i bought and thought that i could paint it apply it or mix it to my icing.....wrong
i think he only thing that i have been able to use it on was my madagascar cake for sand ....yes its that course......

It doesnt brush on well ....i think if you use piping gel on flowers or fondant you could use that to make it stick ...but it doesnt leave a clean look i think it actually looks messy....

the wilton shimmer dust is not fine enough to give it that effect..... if you mix it into the icing you will need tons ....

this is not the same as other shimmer dust because i have bought some from sugar craft - the pearl shimmer dust and this was really quite different.
