Has anyone ever had a body scan done? I am a total hypochondriac who probably has serious anxiety issues and I want to get a body scan done for peace of mind. I'd love to hear from anyone who has had one or who knows anything about them.

Don't know much about it, but my DH had one and 3 ct scans done in the past 6 months. If there is anything you want to know I can ask him.

My Dh has had a few MRI's in the past year, (has MS) and I had a CT the end of Feb. Are you having any pains?Have you been to a Dr? Its not so easy getting any kind of scan done, if you have insurance most require prior approval. And out of pocket is a pretty penny. DH didn't have such a great time with his MRI's he had to lay still for up to 40mins!

I don't think I had a body scan done, but I did have both an MRI and an MRA, and I was put on this table with this head device around my face so I couldn't move my head and then I was put into this tunnel .. it was awful, and I also had to lay still for a long time .. there was music playing but it was no peace of mind for me .. I got pulled out about three times but then they kept putting me right back in .. not sure why but each time I was pulled out they gave me the thumbs up and I gave them back .. on the third time I thought "If they give me the thumbs up the next time they pull me out I am not going to give them thumbs up cause I don't want to be shoved back in here!" But the last time they pulled me out they said ... All Done! The MRI and the MRA were both done on the same machine ... and I did not have to drink anything or have an IV ..

I've thought about those, too. I, too am a hypochondriac, but I also hate doctors. Fun. On one hand, it would be nice to have proof that there's nothing wrong, but on the other, it could bring up a host of new problems. There could be all sorts of little things that I would never even notice, that will never even harm me, or that I couldn't do anything about anyway that could be found by a body scan, and just freak me out.

Let me know if you get one, I'm going to skip it. icon_smile.gif

Didn't Oprah have a body scan a few years ago as she herself was obsessed that there was something really wrong with her..Turned out there was nothing serious. It can be done but is very costly as Health insurance usually won't cover it unless a Dr. has ordered it.

icon_rolleyes.gif I wouldn't think that if you're a hypochondriac then a scan like that would give you peace of mind. What I mean is, for example, years ago I hurt my tailbone. It was extremely painful. So, I went to the Dr. who sent me to an orthopedist. He insisted I have an MRI. So, back to him for the results. Nothing broken...they just take a very long time to heal. I'm picking up my purse...thank you much...and he says "there are a few things though"...I put down my purse. "You have an extra vertebrae....there's arthritis in your hips....this disc is slightly buldging". I'm "should I be worried?" "NO...everyone has stuff like that!" I found out from a sinus catscan that the roots of a wisdom tooth are in my sinus!

So, my point is, we all have abnormalities that might never cause us the slightest problem. That orthopedist visit was 15 years ago. My hips are fine, my back is fine.
If you're already so worried about your health, do you really want to know all those little things? Would knowing them make you crazy?

Agree with previous post, a scan isn't going to do anything to ease your mind. Even if you have a flawless scan, you would worry if it was interpreted correctly, or if something new developed that didn't show, or if a different technology was needed, etc. I think the better time money and energy would be spent on living a healthy lifestyle so that if something genuinely develops later on, you will be in good physical health to deal with it.

Ok, as someone who has Chronic Anxiety and Panic Disorder and who takes her health VERY seriously, I HONESTLY think your money would be better spent in appointments with a good psychologist-therapist who can help you modify your thinking so that you are less anxiety-ridden.

Thanks, guys!

I have had MRI's and CAT scans done in the past - I was just curious if having a body scan (out of pocket - more preventative than anything else) was worth it. I don't think I'll be getting one as it's true that I'll probably just worry more by getting one. It just seems that disease is so much more rampant than it used to be and that it's affecting people so much younger than it used to.

Lana, loved your comment about money being better spent on living a healthy lifestyle. That's so true.

I appreciate all of the feedback!

Carol
