I finally have a new website. I have been sitting here at this very computer for over 5 hours now recreating my business website. Please can you all look at it??? I based the pricing layout off of Cakes by Amy's website (not sure if she is a member here). I sat down and her prices were similiar to mine with a few adjustments. Amy- thanks so much for such a great layout of yours. I know there are some spelling errors that I need to fix...but I'm so gosh darn tired!!!! It's after midnight for pete's sake. But as far as the layout and design, pictures and FAQ page...What do you think? What is missing??? Please help and tell me what you all think. Thanks!!!

Hi there
checked out your website - can so totally relate to the length of time it takes to create... I hope you don't mind but some ideas you might like to think about...

because this is a free site & u have to have the advert. banner at the top (which is white) the fact that your page is black is very distracting and makes the ads stand out more than your product. - my suggestion would be to go with a lighter colour so there is less an obvious distraction -- after all I want to see your page, not the ads.

the banner of "kellys konfections" is very wide/high and your information is lost at the bottom of the screen/page. perhaps you can make it more narrow?

Apart from that you are off to a good start... I hope I haven't offended you - certainly not my intention... webpages are a bit of hobby for me & hubby (we made my page) and I have gleaned alot of knowledge from him and enjoy passing on any of this knowledge that could be helpful.

Is your site a paid or free site? I am working on my GoDaddy site as we speak. I don't think it is very user friendly. Mine is a paid site.

it took me 3 days of working on my website before i got it to look the way i like it. i still update it every few days.

i have several friends who are webpage designers.
their advice: get rid of the counter.
it doesnt look professional to have so few hits. you want to look bigger than you are. i had a counter and got rid of it within the first couple days.

I agree with Feefs, great site but the ad at the top really sticks out and the attention is brought to the add.

Another suggestion that I have is for you to seperate the pictures out if possible. Maybe have a link specific to cookies, cupcakes, cakes, etc. It's nice for people to go right to what they want to see, not everything that you offer and they have to sort them out. Also, is it an option to have the people click on the pictures for larger views? Some of them were hard to see.

I think that you are off to a great start. It really makes me want to get going on my website!!

Good luck!

Ok...to address some of the ideas... I really like the counter...Otherwise I have to pay like 20 bucks a month to see how many people look at my site...the site is a freakin' paid site from godaddy.com....The site is very difficult to use to create...The pictures are all on one page because without upgrading and paying more (which I can't afford to right now just starting out) it will only let you have 5 pages. The picture page is all ready to large is what it says, so I can't make them bigger. The banner at the homepage is kinda big, but that's how the template made it...again...for those of you who have godaddy know how dumb and hard it is to do...I really wish I hadn't paid for it and could have tried to use it before I bought it...The banner at the top sucks and I hate it!!!!! Again...without a fee it can't come off or maybe it won't ever come off..The business colors are black and fushia pink with hints of purple...before the website was an awful bridal pink and after figuring out how to change it (having to delete and start all over again!!!!) This is the closest thing I could get to work with my idea...It is a work in progess, but hopefully it will do for now...Thanks for all the tips and thoughts- keep 'em coming!

i use yahoo for small business and im very happy with it. i think its $9 a month. i can check hits without having a counter on the site. and i can edit it on my computer, than just upload the files when theyre ready. really, its the best ive come across for being totally do-it-yourself.

is there any way to add at least one pic of a cake to the home page?

I am working on my GoDaddy site also. I did see that you can start the count at whatever number you want. Maybe start it at a high number and you can still keep track. I think I would like a counter also so I plan to put in a higher number to start it with.
Do you have any tips that might help me. It is not proving to be very user friendly. Not as many options like backgrounds and such as I had hoped.

I have to interject here...

I've been a web designer for 10 years -

COUNTERS ARE BAD NO MATTER WHAT # IT IS ON!

If you want to know your stats, get a stat program that runs invisibly. You get much more information from them.

mrsright41401, may I ask why the counters are a bad idea? Just curious.

They look unprofessional. They're not reliable, they're incorrect in their counts, they take away from the design. In all, they're useless.

The stat counters actually record, BY IP ADDRESS, everyone that comes to your site, what site referred them (great for marketing) what kind of Operating System (Windows, Linux, etc), and what pages they looked at.

This is an INCREDIBLY useful tool.

I have a counter on my website and while it was fun to watch it go up, it's not correct as it doesn't count individual visits, just counts whenever someone hits my homepage, whether it was the same visit or not. Does that make sense? I still have it there, just haven't gone in there and removed it. I also signed up for Google analytics. It takes a few days for them to get to your site, but then it tracks how many visits, what pages they hit, on what page they left my site, new or returning visitor, how they got to my site (like from Google, an email link, a wedding referral site, etc.), what city they are in, what server they used, etc. Very interesting stuff. I don't understand a lot of the marketing and business stuff, but it tracks the daily visitors very well, and it was free.

This page is hosted free, courtesy of GoDaddy.com®

How come it says this at the top of your site, if you're paying for it? Just wondering?
I would think if you're paying for something like this you would not have to support banners.

If there is possibly a way to put a cake on your banner I think that would be a plus.

I have to agree with everyone about counters. Counters are for people who do websites for "Fun".
