My Mmf Feels Like Cookie Dough!
Decorating By ladybuglau Updated 13 Apr 2007 , 12:20am by Valentinemommy2002
I just made 2 batches of MMF (only my 2nd attempt) and when I tried to color it, it was a very weird consistency, more like cookie dough. I added a little more water and some shortening and it got more elastic, but still instead of stretching, it breaks apart when I pull on it like a cookie dough would. HELP! Is this because I didn't let it rest yet? what did I do wrong? how can I fix it?
p.s. everytime I color fondant it gets really sticky and goopy, this didn't and it took FOREVER for the color to become even
ARGH!!!!! ![]()
have you tried maybe kneading more shortening into it or pop it in the microwave for like 5-10 seconds and re knead it adding a little more powdered sugar or crisco to it.......when you heat it , it helps to remelt the marshmallows and can make it a little sticky again
did you sift your powdered sugar????? i know it sounds silly but it makes a huge difference.
I didn't sift the powdered sugar alaskanmom, maybe that's why it got so weird, the sugar was kinda lumpy. What can I do to fix it will microwaving it and kneading it more help??? or am I gonna have to toss it ![]()
Ive posted similar threads... MMF does this to me when colored.. it crumbles apart no matter how much crisco is kneaded in...
When are you putting the color in? I put my into the melted marshmallows and it colors so easily this way and I've not had any problems. What type of coloring are you using? I use the Wilton pastes...nice even color.
I would've put the color in with the marshmallows but I needed 3 different colors so I kneaded in wilton color paste/gel/whatever it is that comes in the little tiny pots. I never had a problem with regular fondant but now that I think about it, the only other time I made MMF I used it as plain white. Hmmmm, maybe it is the color?
I just finished up a batch of Rhonda's Chocolate MMF from the files and colored it again in the melted marshmallow mixture and it again turned out great. It does seem like it must be the coloring that is messing up yours. Are you adding the ps slowly and working it one cup at a time? I try to not go exactly by the amount the recipe calls for and just keep working it until the consistency feels right.
