May be I am just a sucker for shaped cakes but I though Tha Elise's Sock Monkey cake should have won on last nights Birthday Cake Challenge on Food Network. I jsut hough he was very adorable adn unique from everyone else. I like all the one's that did win, but hers was the best as far as I was concerned. Just my opinion though !! ![]()
What did all of you think ?? ![]()
I think the sock monkey should have won also. I really
like it!
That sock monkey has been on her website for a while ......do you think it might be because it wasn't a "new" design?
The show that aired last night was actually really old. I think the sock monkey was done for the show and then she put it on her website.
I must say, i was suprised that she would make something like that, it was very well done, but i thought the monkey itself was ugly. I think the girl that won really deserved it, the work had a LOT of detail and it was soooooo purty!!!![]()
Just my opinion

I think all the cakes they had last night were amazing, except for the carousel cake. It was nice, but compared to the others - no where near on the level of the other people's! And it was so wobbly! The sock monkey was a neat idea, but there were so many other toys she could have picked from that would have been a lot cuter, and a bit nostalgic- cuz everyone loves to remember things from their childhood! I personally never had a monkey sock puppet or whatever it was. Do you guys remember the one that guy did with Raggedy Ann on it a while back - I can't remember what the theme was - it may have been Christmas. That was my all time favorite! That totally blew me away. I love watching those shows - I learn so much from seeing how they do things! After watching it, my husband actually said I should buy an airbrush! I was shocked - as much as I would love to have one - they're so expensive and I didn't think he'd ever understand why I wanted one - but he loved the effect so much! He was like "Hey, it's an investment." I'm like "yeah, baby! Let's go do some investing!"
I think the sock monkey was adorable but the cake that jack in the box toy cake was way cute! I felt sorry for Cakediva she was having a hard time moving her carousel bless her heart! Been there before afraid it was gonna fall apart... Overall I think they were all great but I think the blown sugar art
ckae with clown and dolphin was the hardest worked on.. I guess cause I think blown sugar is unique and takes a lot of skill to learn...lol Skill I dont have the patience for..HAHAHA They were all great cakes... Even the top was nice!
I loved that the winner was kind of a "newbie" - and I loved her work. The design was great - colorful and well-executed. She deserved to win. I was surprised the sock monkey wasn't even mentioned - at least not in the part that made it on the air - when the judges were discussing the outcome. When I was growing up, I kind of felt sorry for kids who got sock monkeys for Christmas and birthdays because I thought they were so ugly. Maybe the judges had an anti-sock money sentiment left over from childhood, too. ![]()
The Cake Diva apparently hadn't read the rules. She didn't know she was going to have to move her piece. Hellllllooooo! Do you not ever watch these competitions, lady? The weight-lifting belt was just too much! I laughed my butt off! Why would anyone even HAVE that on hand????? (Especially if they didn't know they were going to have to move their cake?) Smelled like a lot of over-the-top theatrics to me.
But, anyway....I was happy with the outcome. I hope the winner's business has grown over the top!
I loveed the money too. I had alot of favorites on that one. I thought the top was cool, and man the sugar art on that one was amazing, I love the cake that one-those are my favorite kind of cakes but that monkey was cool. I have watched that show a few times now. Actually just watched it again today with my husband.

Agree.
Her name says it all.
A bit of a drama queen in that show.
She knew she had to move the cake, she wanted more camera time. Ummm, if you need a weight lifting belt to lift a cake that size, maybe it's a little too dense.
