Does anybody know how to do a tie-dyed effect on a cake? There is a bride that wants a tie-dyed wedding cake, but I do not know how to do this. She had seen this at Hy-Vee (a grocery store) and I have seen it at Wal-Mart, but the people behind the bakery counter are a little less than friendly. Does anybody have any ideas? Thanks!

with fondant or buttercream????? With fondant you just make several snakes of the colors you want....different thickness if you choose depending on how much of each color you want to show up and then knead them together until you get the look you're after....with buttercream you outline a section and fill it in and then butt them up against eachother and then I find the viva paper towel method works really good for this is you go over the seams between each color gently....it helps to kind of meld them together@!!!!!http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=coppermine&file=displayimage&meta=search&search=tie%20dye&cat=0&pos=2&search=tie%20dye

Here is a marbled one

Here is a cake someone did on here maybe you can ask them?? Are you sure you want tie dye or is it marbling that you're after????

It's not marbling, it looks like an actual tie-dyed t-shirt. The link to cake fun is what I was looking for. Thanks! The cakes I have seen have been round and have had the whole top done.

Hey! I don't know if you go to the Wilton Discussion Forum at all. If you do a search under the Life Celebrations forum under "Groovy cake" - there's one done by CaseyCakes that is just amazing! She may have even posted it here on Cake Central because I think I've seen her on here too - search under her photos if you can to see does have the picture here. Anyway, she used icing sheets (I think those are like edible images) to get the tye dye effect and it looks amazing. But if you can't find it here - try the Wilton forum - it's a really cool cake!

Hey - I just found it in the forum here - go under Galleries and search under "groovy." Her screen name is Teesue. It's a really amazing cake - it's the one that is two square tiers and she has a big smiley face head on the top and the word "Groovy." It's SOOOOOOOOOOO cool.
