I have no idea but I just wanted to let you know I agree with you 100%, a ten year old has no business with a cell phone and I use to be a cellphone company employee

Do you guys already have a cell phone plan? If you do some of the companies have kids phones. You get them for free & they share your plan with you. I think they do charge about $10/month for service. My ex got my 8 year old one...she can't dial out numbers, but she can have up to 4 numbers programmed into the phone...that way she can call only who we have on there. Then it doesn't eat up minutes if you call someone with that service cause its mobile to mobile minutes. HTH

I have been thinking about getting this one for my son for this summer. It's called the firefly. You can get it a target and is a prepaid one. Here is one of the reviews left on the target website. You can read more there. Hope this helps. Let me know how it is if this is the way you decide to go!

You could definitely buy a regular cell phone for your kid but then you can't control the incoming/outgoing calls and it is a little bit harder to operate. My son has this phone (he's 10) and we love it. He is only using this phone for emergencies or if he needs me to come early to pick him up from after school activities or friend's houses so he should never be spending mass amounts of time on it. If he wants extra minutes for fun he can purchase them with his allowance money.
It makes me feel secure knowing he has a way to contact me and he's not calling anyone I don't know about since I programmed his allowable numbers!

mtdk454 : that is exactly the phone I was talking about....except the one my dd has is through Verizon. Its a perfect solution if you think your kid needs a cell phone, but don't want them to be able to have full access that a regular cell phone has. I highly recommend it. thumbs_up.gif

Thanks!! icon_lol.gif

I know it sounds silly but my son likes to play at the neighbors and you know how kids are now matter how many times you tell them to check in if they go to another kids house, they don't. I thought this might be great to keep track of him! If you don't mind me asking how do you guys use it?

mtdk454: I hope I understand your question right & my answer makes sense. My ex bought it for my dd cause she can't see him very often & his free nights didn't start until 9:00pm. Her bedtime is 9:00 so it was getting pretty difficult for her to talk to him. We programmed the numbers of her dad, grandma & aunt because they are all on the same plan. It works out great because she can't just dial any number she wants, but now she can talk to her dad any time of the day & it doesn't cost anything.

my 15 year old has one. Walmart go phone..... it was like 60 dollars and the phone cards start at 10 or 15 dollars.... I hate it.... the time on the prepaid cards that you buy for the phone expire if you dont use them in like a month.... and you have two options you pay 1 dollar every day that the phone is used or you pay like 15 cent I think every call they make..... it is horrible.... but my mom bought it for him.... they do also have a phone that is meant for those young ones.... where they can only call the numbers you preset in it, and then you can call them anytime..... it's a tough phone and supposedly can take a lickin'.... but I still dont know. My 8 year old wants one, but there is no way.... heck I wouldn't even want my oldest (15) to have it.......only because he isnt permitted too far from home anyway, because he is so forgetful and in no way responsible enough for that...but oh well I guess he's learning.... good luck

I used to have Verizon cell but couldn't stand another bill, LOL, so I bought a Tracfone. I got it at Walmart for $30. You have to add minutes about every 60 days but its great because you only spend what you want for the card to add more minutes. I think the cheapest card is $30 for about, not for sure, but I think 100 minutes. There's of course other options available. I don't use this as a talking phone so the minutes really last and they continue to rollover month after month. You could read more about it at www.tracfone.com so I hope this helps with your decision.

my children uses the t-mobile pre-paid. the time is good for 1 year and after a while you get extra time for the same price. i don't know how long you have to be a customer but when you reach a certain limit then t-mobile sends you a message letting you know that you will now get extra minutes for the same price.
