I just got a request for a strawberry shortcake christening cake. Has anyone done a decorated strawberry shortcake? Has anyone used buttercream to decorate one?

Hi!

I have make the wilton strawberry shortcake novelty pan. I did it in buttercream icing. I is really cute.

If you need more servings, you can offer it on another cake like a 16" rnd or put cupcake all around it.

Let me know if I can help in any other way.

Thanks guys, but I'm talking about a real strawberry shortcake, not the character.

I have seen people decorate them...............not really any different than any other cake with a filling! Are you planning on using some kind of pound cake with strawberries and whipped cream filling??? Are you more wanting to know about decorating with the whipped icing?????

another gorgeous one by parismom

Love the idea of the two tiered if you have a lot to feed. As far as using buttercream to decorate......I think that's a taste preference...if they're asking for strawberry shortcake, they probably expect a whipped cream type of icing....but there are tons of recipes for whipped icings that I'm sure would suffice....I know there are people that have used them to pipe decorations...but personally I think the fluffy icing and strawberries are beautiful on their own.

Thanks for the pix KHalstead. I've only been decorating in IMB so I'm thinking that it's not going to be what she expects if I use it in place of the whipped cream. She asked for my advice since she likes the IMB. I think I'll advise her that the whipped cream will not be as sturdy and send her the pictures you posted. We'll see what she says. Thanks again for your input.
