Getting My Food Coloring For Icing...

I am just starting to decorate cakes. My first cake is a groom's cake and the bride asked for a white cake with chocolate icing. I know that you must add food coloring to get chocolate icing - brown. With that said, what are your recommendations for cake decorators just starting out...as to what food colors to start with... What are the most popular? Where is the cheapest place to get the food coloring?
Thank you, again, for all your helpful hints...
Does the bride want brown icing that tastes like plain buttercream, or chocolate icing? If she wants chocolate icing, you replace some of the confectioner's sugar with cocoa powder, or you add melted chocolate, depending on your recipe.
The least expensive place to buy your icing colors is right here at Cake Central. Go to the shop link, and look to the far left. Food coloring is the first link.

Yes, she wants chocolate icing. I know to add cocoa powder, but it comes out a very pale brown, so to give it that *chocolate color* - I add food coloring. So, I am going to purchase food coloring (chocolate brown), but I also want to start building up my food coloring stock - what colors do I begin with????
Before you go adding food coloring to your icing, go into the recipes section and look through the chocolate frosting recipes. Then go online. I am afraid that, since brown is one of the darker colors, you may end up distorting the taste of the icing if you use the amount of food coloring you will need. Any chocolate fudge icing should do. The Wilton website has a recipe for a groom's cake that has the darker brown icing, and they do not use the brown coloring. Take a look at their cake and recipe and let me know what you think. Here's the link:

I have made brown fondant, and it took a whole jar to color 2 pounds of Wilton.
To buy colors, you should start with your primary - red, yellow, royal blue, and your secondary, green, orange, purple. You want black, white (to lighten), leaf green, sky blue, pink. From there, choose your colors as you think you will need them.
