I have to bake two 12'' cakes 3 or 4'' high) and do not have enough cake mix of one brand that calls for oil, I have to complete with another brand that uses butter instead.
1) Would it be a problem if I mix both?
2) How many cake mixes are needed for a 12'' pan?
Thanks for your help!

No, I don't think it will be a problem to mix both - you could also sub butter for oil (or oil for butter) if you want to.

i have mixed two different brands with no problems....as for the amount the wilton book sais that based on a 12x3'' pan you need 11 cups of batter, and usually a cake mix is 4-4 1/2 cups of batter...hope that helped.

I mix DH and BC all the time when I bake the White Almond sour cream cake. I actually prefer this recipe when using the 2 different brands. My fave is DH butter recipe with a BC yellow cake mix
