Hi Everyone
I got a request for a wedding cake for 300 people. Nothing fancy, simple with ribbon as a boarder. What would you charge and what size tiers would you do?

Thanks

I'd charge a minimum of $600 for the cake. Check out this link of Earlene's serving chart, it will help you decide on what pans to use.

Are you doing it in fondant or another icing? If you are going to charge just basic per serving charge then at least $1000. That's going to have to be a big cake for 300.

Oops...forgot to ask about fondant. If fondant, I'd be charging a minimum of $900.

The cake will be iced in buttercream with fondant pearls as a border for the ribbon. Are any of you in North Carolina? I wanted to get a round about price for this area. Doug...in Lumberton, NC.... where are you????? What would you charge considering we aren't in a big metropolian area?

Thanks for the chart Karateka..this will definitely come in hand. I was thinking like $500 for the cake...excluding any rental and cake serving fees. What does everyone think?

That's not even $2 per serving. your time and energy aren't even covered in that.

thats $1.67 a slice!!!! not enough for your time more less materials. i'm on the outher banks of n.c. i get $4.00 a serving and i'm the cheapest person here that i know of. you need to get at the least $3.00 a serving. call around in your area and ask what they charge a slice. pick a happy medium. don't cut yourself short. it's not worth doing the cake unless it's for family at that price.

I usually get $2 for just a regular birthday cake. I would bump it up to at least $2.50 (that is what I charged a friend for a grooms cake). I paid $2.75 a slice 3 years ago for a simple wedding cake for my daughter and it only fed 175. HTH

$500 is definitely too little. Unless this is a gift, I would consider $2/serving an absolute minimum, plus a charge for making the fondant pearls. If your area allows it, I'm with those who say$2.50 - $3 per.
