Hi,
I finally got around to buying some Viva paper towels, and want to try smoothing with them. I'm wondering if the class buttercream (all crisco, no butter) will work well with this method... If it won't, why not and what would be better.

Thanks!

dky-
I've never tried the viva method and was planning to. Just to see what all the buzz was about. Why do you dislike it?

Haven't tried the viva towel thing, I have had good luck with parchment paper and now computer paper thanks to someone on this site who suggested this.(sorry can't remember who posted about this). Works like a charm.

It would take me so much time to smooth my frosting that it would be embarassing to tell. Yesterday, on a dummy, I used the squirt bottle withwater, then the viva and then the computer paper. It took a while but it is by far the smootest frosting I have ever been able to do. I don't mind taking a bit of time if the results are worth it. It just takes practice, practice, practice. Now, if I could get my IBC this smooth?

I love the viva paper towel trick. I am so excited that it works. I however want to try the computer paper as I heard it gets the cake much smoother.

Its just a personal thing...

I just thinks its wierd to rub a cake with a paper towel and not too hygenic... what about the small fibres that must come away from the paper towel.... and do the people you are feeding the cake to know that you rubbed it all over with a pape towel?

I know its a favourite for many, I just don't like it.

Each his own and thats why this site is great... lots of ideas and variations so you can pick and choose what you like.

People probably don't think too much about it since they use papertowels to wipe their mouths and hands.

To each his own--I can't imagine using computer paper--that really seems unhygenic to me since it was not made for your mouth and probably has more chemicals applied to it.
