I have been shopping for some good cake books and I was wondering what other books you all own. I have 2 Colette Peters' books and LOVE them. I was looking for cake sculpting, unique cakes to do etc. Any ideas???

If you want to get into figure modelling etc, then there is no better teacher than Debbie Brown imo! I have all her books - plus everyone published by Lindy Smith, Colette Peters, Toba Garrett, Jane Asher, Peggy Porschen etc, etc. In fact I have over 50 cake decorating books, and then at least 25 recipe books - and more of both on the way/pre-ordered!!! I don't regret purchasing any of them! Sorry, wasn't much help was I?!

My absoloute favourites (so far!) are: Margaret Braun's 'Cakewalk', Debbie Brown's 'Enchanted Cakes' & 'Fairytale Cakes', Maisie Parrish's 'Cakes with Character' and Nadine Hurst's 'Contemporary Wedding Cakes'.

I think Toba Garrett's "Professional Cake Decorating" is a really good one. For figures I would have to agree on Debbie Brown.

Good luck.

I just ordred a "Lambeth method of cake decorating" book that is vintage 1937...I can't wait to get my hands on it as the thing set me back 390$ USD
(450$ CND)...cakemmomy was telling me about it and I couldn't resist it. I also ordered the "cakewalk" book as I have heard nothing but rave reviews about it on CC. Debbie Brown is great as well I have her "Enchanted Cakes" & "Fairytale Cakes" books too, great places for ideas. And Toba Garrett's "well decorated cake" and "professional cake decorating" books are both wonderfull resources as well. I've got a couple of Nick Lodge books that are wonderfull for gumpaste flowers. Well now that you know where my cake profits go and I've proven myself to be a book worm as well as cake maniac I shall go check the forums for new posts...LOL Hope I was helpfull

I have to agree with the other's on Toba Garrett's books. I refer to them all the time for when I'm in need of a design/detail idea.

Cake walk by Margaret Brown, is the most stuning of them all, not easy to copy but very inspiring

Agree - Cakewalk is my favourite cake book, the author's name is actually Margaret Braun. Just a gorgeous book for an insight into a cake decorator's inspirations. Not the type of book you should buy if you want 'blueprint copy books' but if you're a fairly confideent decorator you could probably do her cakes. I think it's more the sort of book you buy to admire her work and get some inspiration rather than as a template or guide.

It's Margaret BRAUN. I recenlty bought her book and LOVE it!! I'm dying to get my hands on some of the paint she uses on her cakes!

I also would recommend Debbie Brown and Lindy Smith for unique cakes. Lindy has a new book coming out soon called Cakes to Inspire and Desire. Elisa Strauss from Confetti Cakes is coming out with a book very soon and she does sculpted cakes. There's a really cute pic of a purse cake on the front cover of her book!
