I just received a request for a wedding cake with Scottish Thistles on it. Must say, that while the bride was talking on the phone I was on the internet pulling up a pic of a Scottish Thistle. icon_eek.gificon_eek.gif Do NOT have a clue how to make one but I would love to hear that someone on Cake Central knows where I can purchase some or would be willing to make for me to purchase. icon_wink.gificon_biggrin.gif I do not think I want to even attempt to try and make them. Sooooooo, does anyone have any ideas?????????? <fingers crossed> She is calling me back in an hour.

Thanks!!!

I think you could use a method similar to the cactus cakes but I'm not in the know on flower making...here's a bump.

That's a good idea but the top part of the flower........ how...... I am not sure where to begin to make all those fine little string like thingys. I found one website on line in the UK that has some so I guess I can always see how much but I bet the shipping will kill me!

Thanks for the bump.

There is a patchwork cutter with Scottish thistles on it - probably not much help icon_rolleyes.gif You could decorate the board (if covered with fondant) or fondant strips around the bottom of each layer?

What other flowers is she asking for with a thistle? Kind of a different request.... icon_rolleyes.gif

I saw the patchwork cutter but she said that she wanted gum paste flowers. She is very much into her Scottish Heritage and the whole wedding theme is Scottish. They are very unique and extremely nice people and I have done many cakes for this family so I do not want to have to decline now due to a flower!!! I know that I am not qualified to make it so I am going to continue to search the internet and pray that something pops up!

I'll check also and let you know if I find anything!!!
I have a friend in Scotland who's daughter is in to sugar art/cakes. I'll email them for any hints or web sites? Worth a shot I guess. icon_rolleyes.gif
Very interesting!

I thought about this right after my last post -

Have you checked Lindy Smith's site out? She's in England and answers emails very promptly! She may have the ready-made ones? Or maybe be able to tell you where to look.
I was downstairs looking through her book, "Celebrate with A Cake". Couldn't find a thistle though. icon_sad.gif

Also, "emmascakes" is across the pond. I think that's her name. She's a member here.
