I love to practice decorating with frosting but I eat a LOT of it while doing so. icon_redface.gif I want to practice with a frosting like substance that isn't edible or is so yucky tasting that I won't want to eat it. Add in, that it must be safe to use with my tips. I can sanitize those and use disposable bags. Any suggestions? icon_biggrin.gif

You could always use the wilton all crisco recipe. I know some people love it but eewwwww I would rather eat worms! icon_lol.gif

Just make your icing without ANY flavorings at all, it will just be a mixture of sugar and Crisco. YUK!!! Try the Wilton Class buttercream with no flavoring in it. You will NOT want to eat it! Hahaha!

Hmmm....just a thought, but what if you made regular buttercream, but instead of powdered sugar, use cornstarch? I've never done that before, but I think you would end up with a buttercream consistency, with a yucky taste to it. You definitely won't want to eat it. icon_biggrin.gif

Put a big wad of minty gum in your mouth. Don't think you'll even dream about licking your fingers (or sucking on the tips LMAO!)

I don't know of any frosting that is not edible but the wilton stuff in the cans is pretty nasty! I got a tip on here that works wonders, I chew gum! That way you won't be tempted to eat the stuff! It keeps your mouth busy so you can focus on decorating icon_lol.gif. I have also heard of people brushing their teeth before too! Hope this helps!

For dummy cakes, I use my regular crisco-BC recipe except I use water instead of milk and no flavorings.

The Wilton class BC is awful with flavorings so it might be super nasty without.

I'm also going to try the cornstarch too. I'll report back if it works!

Gum. Gum is a good idea for when I'm decorating an actual cake so that I won't lick the beaters or the spatula after I'm done.

Keep the suggestions coming!

PLAIN CRISCO!!!!! seriously. i garuntee that you will not even consider putting that spoon in your mouth. its cheap, no work to do, and pipes well. IF you are clean about it...working on parchment , without touching it , clean surface and tools, etc...you can actually scoop it back into your container and use it for a real recipe when you need it.

I can't imagine not wanting to eat the frosting, I am in shock! LOL. Seriously, how many calories can there be in a fingertip of frosting? I won't tell if you won't tell that we can't just have ONE......... icon_biggrin.gif

Thank you for all of these suggestions. I have one more to add: flavor the frosting with something you don't like I would use hot pepper. icon_smile.gif

I put vinegar instead of water. I didn't mention it to my children but they were unpleasantly surprised. hehe It smells bad. So I just make the good stuff. hehe

You could also make your regular buttercream and then add like a 1/2 cup of salt (or some crazy amount like that) to it. I would imagine it would be pretty inedible after that!! icon_smile.gif
