Tier Question

I have an 8-inch cake that will have a 6-inch tier cake. I've stacked before, but have not used separator plates. For the plate that goes on top of the 8-inch cake, do I support it with dowels or the plastic pegs that Wilton sells? Or it does it matter which one is used? Thanks for your help!

I don't use the plate on top of the bottom cake. I use push in pillars. They push in all the way to the bottom of the cake, so you have support and it won't fall over......

The store was out of the push-in types, so I thought I'd play with the plates.

you do have to dowel the plate that goes on top of the bottom cake. it seems like they do come with pegs but those are for keeping the cake plate in place, not for doweling. i am pretty sure wilton.com will have detailed instructions.

Thanks for your help. I saw the instructions at Wilton, but I didn't see any mention of the pegs. I'll keep looking.
