Hey Frosting Friends,

I am going to take the plunge and attempt a lighthouse cake for my MIL for her BD/Mothers Day (same day usually) She adores them. I have researched threads and cakes here on CC and settled on a design and will actually run a wire up a hollow dowel thru the middle with an actual light. Doug was wonderful enough to post a template for the top part that I will modify & use. I plan to feed no more than 20ish, question...........
what sizes and how do I stack them for stability? Do I use all 6 inches & carve? I saw a large wine bottle cake done once where they did it in 6 inches, pillared and boarded every 2 layers (it was like 6 layers total) and carved. Does this sound right? Is there something I am missing to make this structurally sound?? Any help appreciated. Thanx.

Heather

sounds like a plan!

yep, lots of layers stacked, doweled, and carved.

great touch w/ the hollow dowel so you can put a real light on top (been watching Duff have we???)

looking forward to the pics

That sounds like a really good idea. I would love how to do it... let me know what you decide to do!
