I need advice. I'm making mini tiered cakes for my sister's bridal shower and would like to know which is easiest, covering the cakes with melted icing or candy melts. I want the smooth look without having to do fondant. Any ideas.

A "bump" is someone posting a blank reply to get your question back on the homepage for more views! So here's another one...

BTW--If you search the forums for "mini-cakes" you'll find lots of info.

personally i like doing the small cakes with fondant or chocolate. When i use chocolate i do them as wraps. Its just a matter of taking a sturdy piece of plastic (the blank stencil sheets in walmarts works well for this)

What i do is make a sheet cake, level, fill and ice the top. I use different size round cutters to cut the layers of the mini cake out of the larger sheet. Then using the plastic cut to the height of the layer and long enough to go around the circumference. Lay on the counter, and pour some melted chocolate on it, spread to make sure the plastic is covered, let set up until the chocolate is just starting to set (you need it still flexible, but you don't want it running off the plastic when you pick it up) pick up the plastic and wrap around the cake, let set up until firm, then peal the plastic off.
